Following the 98-90 Game 7 victory against the reigning champion Denver Nuggets, Anthony Edwards joined TNT's postgame broadcast. Charles Barkley began asking Edwards a question: "I have not been to Minneapolis in probably 20 years," he stated.
Game 7 may appear statistically different from previous Edwards heroics. He did not score forty points. He did not have six thefts and was not perfect from three. Edwards just played the proper way, which is remarkable for a 22-year-old on the cusp of becoming an all-time great.
But Edwards still hit the game-winning three in the fourth quarter.
After a Naz Reid put-back, the Wolves increased their advantage to seven, 89-82. Jamal Murray then turned the ball over at half court after a Mike Conley double team and steal. Conley glided to the left wing before passing the ball to a sprinting Reid, who took two strides toward the hoop before spinning a pass to the right corner, where Edwards stood alone.
Edwards was 1/8 from three at the time. He took a dribble, double-checked that he was behind the arc, set up his shot, and hit nothing but the net. With 3:07 remaining, the Nuggets were forced to seek a timeout after falling down 92-82. Edwards screamed before celebrating with someone in the audience.
